The Lamb of God

I was given this lamb ornament when I was a child.  I have often thought of this as visual for Jesus being the Lamb of God.  In Old Testament law, a perfect lamb had to be sacrificed for forgiveness of sin.  Jesus was born as a baby (the reason we celebrate Christmas) in order to grow up and be the perfect sacrifice for our sin.

I love Christmas.  I enjoy putting up Christmas decorations, listening to and singing Christmas songs, and thinking about the joy and wonder of the season.  The most important piece of Christmas is to remember the purpose.  Jesus came, because we are sinners who cannot pay for our sin outside of suffering for eternity (read the book of Romans in the Bible). In order to pay this penalty for us, Jesus came to earth to be a man.  He lived a perfect life (the only man who ever could) so He could die for our sins.

I pray you have trusted in Jesus to save you from your sins.  If not, I pray you do today (2 Corinthians 6:2).

God is so good.

Christmastime

I enjoy many things about Christmas: the decorations, music, family get-togethers. Christmas can produce many wonderful memories. However, none of those special times mean much without Jesus Christ being the center of our lives.

Christ is worthy of that central position. He bought us with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20; 7:23). Too often we rebel at the thought of being owned by God. Oh, friend, being owned by God, Who paid with His only Son’s life, is worth everything.

So this during Christmas season, don’t forget to keep Christ at the center of your celebration. He is worthy and He is worth it.

A Christmas Bonfire

I was blessed to spend Christmas with my parents again this year – and both of my brothers.  I enjoy when I get quality time with those I love.

One special memory from this Christmas was the bonfire my dad started for me.  I had gone outside to help him burn some cardboard.  When we were almost done with that task, my dad offered to start a bonfire (which was possible due to a lack of snow).  It took 3 tries, but the fire finally got going – a few marshmallows later (and a few shivers – it was chilly outside) I went back inside with a big smile on my face.

Special memories like this are treasures.  Something that money can’t buy.  God has blessed me in great measure.
