Hope in God

Today’s verse tells us that Jesus is unchanging. I am so thankful I can count on Who He is. This is another way to praise our amazing God.
Dear Heavenly Father, I am so thankful that You are unchanging. I am in awe that You are so patient with my constantly changing nature. You are worthy of great praise.
I pray this in Jesus’ name.
God is so good.

I have spent a lot of time thinking about Jesus’ example prayer. A few years ago I did several blog posts on the different portions of that prayer. One of my areas of struggle is trying to think through today’s application of Jesus’ prayer. He didn’t want us to continually pray His prayer verbatim. So for a time I want to look at specific ways to praise God.
The first part of Jesus’ prayer says, “Our Father in Heaven, Holy is Your name.” God’s holiness is an amazing character trait. Today’s verse in Revelation talks about God’s worthiness. In this case we read about God being the reason for the existence of all things. God deserves “to receive glory and honor and power”. I want to praise God for His worth.
Dear Heavenly Father, You are worthy for more glory than I can give. Please accept my small voice of praise for being the reason we all “exist and were created”. Thank You for the examples and prompts for how to pray and praise You.
I pray this in Jesus’ name.
God is so good.

The book of Proverbs is full of wisdom. These verses follow some of the most famous (trust in the Lord in vs. 5-6). We are told to avoid wisdom according to our own thinking. If we allow God His proper place, we will benefit from it.
It is worth spending time learning God’s wisdom according to the Bible. I hope God’s Word is something that fills your year. You will find this pursuit to be worthwhile.
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise You for the wisdom You have provided through Your Word. Please help us to read and study the Bible in the year to come. We need Your help.
I pray this in Jesus name.
God is so good.

This is a continuation of Psalm 37:4. We are told to delight in the Lord. In these verses we are told that God establishes the steps of those who delight in God’s way. God gives wonderful gifts, but we need to seek Him with joy.
Christmas is a wonderful time to remember the joy of the angels announcement that the Messiah had been born. If we read and study the Bible, we can find many reasons for joy and delight.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word. Thank You for giving many reasons to delight in You. Thank you for Your provision. Please help us through this season and every season to spend time delighting. We often need help to keep looking into what You have for us.
I pray this in Jesus’ name.
God is so good.

This verse gives us commands and a benefit. We are to trust, do good, dwell, befriend and delight. I think too often we want to jump to the desires of our heart. I think we miss the point of the verse. God doesn’t just give us what we want. We are to delight in Him. If our minds are focused on God, we will have appropriate desires. I have often thought God wants more for us than we want for ourselves. I wonder how much more we would gain if we delight in the Lord.
Dear Heavenly Father, please help us to follow the commands You have given. Thank You for being trustworthy and the best example of good. Thank You for being delightful.
I pray this in Jesus’ name.
God is so good.
