Thankfulness to Show the Gospel

I chose the gospel as my word for this year. This verse is part of the reason why. I am thankful that God saved me from my sins through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ. I want to live so others see how good God is. If people know the truth of Who God is, I believe we would see a drastic change in our world. The goodness of God overcomes the ugliness of sin.

Today I am thankful for the gospel and the difference it can make in our lives.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for providing the gospel through Jesus Christ. Thank You for being so good. Please help me to show Your goodness to others. I want others to see Your goodness in my life. I praise Your name.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Thanksgiving and Praise

Can you believe it is November?  There have been times the last two years when it felt as time stood still; however, as usual, time flies by and I wonder what happened.

I want to take November to talk about thankfulness again this year.  When times get tough, I find it much easier to complain.  I want to be thankful more often.  Writing about thankfulness helps me do that.

Today I want to start with thankfulness for God’s Word.  Today’s verse tells us about the usefulness of the Bible.  We have a whole list of how the Bible (Scripture) prepares us to do good works.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Your Word.  I am thankful for the instruction it gives me.  I praise Your name!

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Uncomplicated

I have talked the last couple weeks about trusting in Jesus Christ to save us from our sins.  Some think that to have a relationship with God, there is a difficult formula to manage.  No, it is very simple.  Romans 10:9-10 tell us that it is as simple as confession (saying, “I’m sorry”) and belief that God has done what He says.  Jesus did the hard work when He died on the cross.  He took the penalty on Himself.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for providing such a simple way to have a relationship with You.  You are worthy of all worship, but You made a way for us to come to You.  I praise Your name.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Focusing on God’s Goodness

I know it can be so easy to fall into the pattern of looking at the difficult things we face in life.  When we focus on the negative, we forget God’s goodness.  I think we know God is good, but we need to remember and think about the ways God is good.

God sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross to save us from our sins.  God provides for our needs and often wants.  God only gives good gifts (James 1:17).  So, the next time the weight of trials threatens, take refuge in God.  You can “taste and see” that God is good.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the good gifts You give.  Thank You that I can take refuge in You.  Thank you for the opportunity to “taste and see” that You are good!

I praise this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Praise for Daily Help

I survived another week working smack dab in the middle of supply chain.  Things are still crazy due to the upheaval over the last year and a half.  And no, supply chain professionals aren’t going to fix it all.  When you look at many of the reasons behind the issues, we don’t have control over those things.  But I digress.

The reality, no matter the reasons, is that life is still tough.  I am so thankful that God is willing and able to hold me up throughout the challenges I face.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through another challenging week.  I praise You for the salvation You have so freely given.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

When I Feel Alone

Last week I wrote about never being alone.  It is true – when a person places their trust in Christ, they will never be alone.  However, there are tough times when we feel alone.  We need to remember that we should be seeking God on a daily basis.  God holds on to us, but also asks us to seek Him.

The next time you are feeling alone, think about how much you have been seeking Christ.  If you have – keep seeking Him.  If you have not – start seeking Him today.  He will allow you to find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us to seek You.  Thank You that it is possible to find You.  Please help me to continually seek You.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Who Hears Prayer

The Psalms are filled with praise and encouragement.  This one starts with praising God and recognizing that He is worthy of worship.  Then we are reminded that God is the one Who hears prayer.  For Almighty God to be willing to listen to us is an amazing thing.  God is in charge of the universe, but He still wants us to come to Him.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that I can come to You and bring my requests. Thank You for your leading in my prayers.  I ask that You would be at work in hearts so more would cling to You and bring their requests to You. Thank You that You listen to all who come to You.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Take Time to Praise

I have often caught myself spending more time in prayer asking God for things than thanking Him.  I also know how easy it can be to complain instead of praise.  God tells us multiple times in His Word to be thankful and give praise to Him.  I appreciate verses like Psalm 100:4-5 that not only remind us to praise, but also give us an easy reason to give praise.  God’s steadfast love (Hebrew word hesed) and faithfulness are readily evident (when we are paying attention).

I need to pay attention for the many ways to thank and praise God, but I know when I get stuck that God’s Word will give me the help to get started.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your steadfast love.  You are unchanging and Your love is always available to me.  I praise Your faithfulness.  I am in awe of the endurance Your love and faithfulness has.  You are worthy of praise and honor and glory.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Complete and Total Trust

This last week I have been fighting a different battle.  The company that manages my employer’s disability policy does not have the information they want to process my claim.  I have been confused and felt hassled trying to be the go-between to get this situation resolved.  I have needed the reminder to pray and trust the Lord completely.  God has this situation in hand, just as He had my surgery and recovery taken care of.

Life is full of various challenges.  God has the ability to take care of us through anything He allows in our lives.  I need to rely completely and totally on God to be able to make it through those situations.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for providing secure footing when I rely completely on You.  Please help me when I struggle to trust You completely.  I know You are trustworthy.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Being Equipped

I was at CTCA for my one month post-surgery follow up this week.  God has sent many blessings along the way, despite the challenges of surgery.  At this point, I have been “released” and do not need any more treatment.

I still can’t say specifically why God chose this journey for me, but I know God has a plan to bring honor to Himself.  He will equip me to do His will.  There is nothing better in life than living for God.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for all of the blessings and for giving me strength to endure the challenges.  Please help me to live the purpose You have for me.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.
