Seek First

God has given us so many wonderful reminders in His Word. This verse tells us of a priority. We must seek God’s kingdom first. The context of this passage is how God’s provides. We are not to worry about our daily needs. God provides even for the birds. We know He will provide for us.

So let’s seek God’s way in all that we do and watch for His provision.

Dear Heavenly Father, please help us to seek Your kingdom and pursue Your righteousness. Please guide our seeking. Help us to remember we can trust You through the process.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Where is Your Trust

I like the way this verse is worded. A person is blessed by trusting in the Lord. The second part catches me. Blessed is the person “whose trust is the Lord.” God needs to be the object of our trust. Too often we trust more in people than in the Lord. God uses people in our world – in our lives. However, God is the only one Who is truly good. He is the One in full control. I am so thankful.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being a perfect object of our trust. Please help us as we interact with one another. Please guide our trust to You and away from people. We need to hold tight to You and show others how to do that as well.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Humility and Exaltation

Humbling ourselves is not an easy thing to do. We have to realize our self importance isn’t really that important. However, when we do humble ourselves, God tells us the He will exalt us – at the proper time. Sounds like waiting to me. God doesn’t promise to give us what we want, when we want it. God promises to help us with our cares. Because He cares. That is a powerful message.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the advice You give in Your Word. Thank You for the joys You have planned for our future. Please help us as we wait. I praise You for Your care.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Groanings

Life is full of many difficult challenges. Health issues, relationship difficulties, there is a long list of possible problems we can face. The Bible gives us many things to pray, but sometimes our hearts are so overwhelmed words seem impossible. I am so thankful God provides help through the Holy Spirit. He knows what we ought to pray and turns our groanings into words.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the Holy Spirit’s help when we cannot pray as we ought. Please help us remember the Holy Spirit is always available.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Anxiously Looking

Fear and anxiety is a part of life. We face so many difficulties and uncertainties. This passage is specifically for Israel, but I know God does not want us to fear (2 Timothy 1:7). God provides strength (1 Peter 4:11). God gives us the promises He so eloquently spoke to Israel. Those of us today can rest in the strength and help God gives.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the beautiful way You tell us to look to You. Please bring these reminders often. We need Your help to face the anxieties of life.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

Unstable, No Wisdom

I often quote James 1:5. God has taught me much about prayer, so I have no trouble asking God. I love that He gives “generously to all without reproach”. However, I get a bit stuck at verse 6. I must ask without doubting.

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

James 1:6-8

I fear that I will mess up God’s wisdom and make some kind of mistake. With that attitude I “must not suppose that I will receive anything from the Lord.” That alone is pretty depressing. However, Matthew 17:30 tells me that I only need faith the size of a mustard seed. The size of my faith isn’t the important part. Trusting that God will keep His promise is the key.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for always keeping Your promises. Please remove my doubt so I can be strengthened by Your wisdom.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.

What Sticks

People spend a lot of time and money on plans. Planning is a good concept, but Proverbs 19:21 reminds us that the only ones that stick are the plans of God. Does this mean we don’t make plans? No, there are plenty of times where the Bible tells us to be prepared (1 Peter 3:15, Proverbs 6:8; 24:27). As a believer I prayerfully make plans and remember that God is in control.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for making plans that will stand. Please help me to make plans that are in line with Your will.

I pray this in Jesus’ name.

God is so good.
